About Us
The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is the State of Nebraska’s consolidated approach to enterprise information technology services. The Office of the CIO provides a wide range of technology services to state agencies, boards, and commissions.
History
The Office of the Chief Information Officer was created in 1998 as part of Nebraska Revised Statute 86-519. The goal was to both centralize and streamline IT services for various state and local elements, reducing duplication and costs through enterprise-level solutions.
Together with the Nebraska Information Technology Commission (NITC), the OCIO helps promote IT use in education, healthcare, and economic development. The NITC also issues guidelines and policy recommendations with the help of the OCIO which ensures safe and secure use of technology.
Numerous state-level projects have been implemented by the OCIO. In 2009, the agency partnered with the Nebraska Public Power District to develop the Statewide Radio System (SRS), connecting fire departments, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies through a single communications system.
Since 2017, an ongoing modernization effort to the OCIO’s data centers has simplified IT infrastructure and supported remote work for state teammates through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning in the early 2020s, the OCIO created the Joint Networks Operation Center and Joint Security Operations Center to coordinate various IT and cybersecurity efforts across Nebraska.
Today, the OCIO continues its work in offering powerful solutions to various state, county, and local political subdivisions.

Location
The Office of the CIO's main office is located in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, and the agency operates facilities across the state from Omaha to Scottsbluff.
