The planning and project management group participates in a number of strategic planning activities related to information technology. A few of those activities are briefly described in the following text:

The Nebraska Information Technology Commission (NITC) publishes a statewide technology strategic plan. Staff members from the planning and project management group play an important supporting role in drafting this plan and providing staff work throughout its development and eventual adoption by the NITC.

State government organizations are required to file an agency technology plan as part of the general budgeting process. Staff members from the planning and project management group help gather and coordinate this collection of information, thereby facilitating broad, general analysis of information technology issues in the state.

Specifically, the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) constructs such a technology plan. Again, staff members help coordinate the efforts of the various DAS divisions and assist with the eventual construction of a unified agency plan.

DAS also constructs a general agency strategic plan. To the extent it is reasonable, the Information Technology Services divisions offer input to this plan and help monitor and execute the plan once it is in place.

A new effort - as the Information Technology Services divisions develop a better sense of joint operations, a strategic plan for technology will be developed. As these details begin to emerge, information will be posted at this website.
